Padmaavat expected to re-release on January 24

 2025 has begun on a happy note for the fans of Deepika Padukone. On January 3, her 2013 film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani was re-released and it put up huge numbers. The demand was so huge that theatres had to add many more shows and more theatres also started playing the romcom. 2 days later, on January 5, the fans celebrated the birthday of the star. And now, they are all set to get another surprise. Bollywood Hungama has learned that Padmaavat will be back on the big screen.

A source told us, “Padmaavat is re-releasing, that too in two days from now, on January 24. An announcement is expected to happen in a few hours and then the bookings will be thrown open.”

The source wasn’t aware of how big the release would be. A trade expert commented, “Padmaavat completes 7 years on January 25. Hence, it makes sense to re-release the film on its anniversary. Also, the trend of re-releases is very strong right now.Around its release, Padmaavat faced strong opposition from certain groups. As a result, it wasn’t released in Rajasthan. It now remains to be seen if the period drama manages to be screened in one of the 20+ screens of PVR Inox in the desert state.

Besides Deepika Padukone, Padmaavat also starred Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor. It was the story of Queen Padmavati, the wife of Maharawal Ratan Singh of Chittor and what happened when Allaudin Khilji, the tyrant Sultan, laid siege on the impregnable fortress of Chittorgarh. Trouble arose when Khilji became obsessed and wanted to capture Chittor and its Queen at any cost.

Padmaavat was directed by the master director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and was one of the biggest hits of 2018. It ended up collecting Rs. 302 crores in India despite not getting a release in Rajasthan.

Saif Ali Khan Attacked

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan received multiple injuries after an intruder attacked him with a knife during an alleged burglary attempt at his residence in Mumbai in the early hours of Thursday (January 16, 2025).

The accused has been identified through the CCTV footage of him using the staircase to escape from the apartment building. As per the preliminary probe, the intruder did not force his entry or break into the actor’s 12th-floor flat in the Satguru Sharan building, but possibly sneaked in at some point earlier in the night.

The intruder fled from the spot following the incident which took place at around 2.30 am.

But it was able to earn less than 1 lakh at the world box office, making it the biggest box office disaster in the history of Indian cinema. Now the film has hit OTT but here's another heartbreaking fact adjoined with it. 

While there are always discussions about films selling their OTT rights for more and more sum, here's a film Bollywood film that has been released on OTT for free. Yes! Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar's The Lady Killer has been released on YouTube almost a year after its release. 

Reason by The Lady Killer flopped

The audience has hardly heard the name of this film because neither has there been any promotion of this film nor it was released on many screens. Not only this but there was also a discussion that the makers released this film in theatres without shooting it completely. Yes! you read that right, the director confirmed to a movie critic that the actors left the work abruptly and hence the climax of the film didn't get shot ever. 

The film went over budget during the shoot

The shooting of this film directed by Ajay Bahl started in April 2022. If reports are to be believed, this film made on a budget of 45 crores had gone over budget. In such a situation, it was put on hold for a re-shoot but later producer Shailesh R Singh cancelled its re-shoot. The makers released its trailer on October 29 and on November 3rd the film was released incomplete in select theaters across the country. That too without any promotion. According to some media reports, the film was released in theatres in a hurry because the digital rights of the film had already been sold. In such a situation, its OTT release was important for the makers and its deadline was till December end. However, the current scenario speaks the reverse.
